   INTRODUCTION

Fairview Deer Stud is owned by Craig Wilson who farms approximately 400 red deer at Makarewa, just 10 minutes North of Invercargill in Southland, New Zealand.

The Stud was established in 1987 and was originally based on New Zealand Red Deer and German Festl bloodlines. Over the years all the deer have been pedigree recorded, nowadays all fawns are DNA profiled at weaning time. Emphasis has been placed on breeding stags who grow velvet that is correct in tyne placement, has good length of tynes and a heavy weight. Some stags are selectively bred to produce multi pointed antlers which are in demand for the trophy market.

Craig's extensive use of AI and Embryo Transfer over many years has enabled him to take advantage of many top sire stags' genetics. Also Fairview has purchased many deer from other leading studs in New Zealand to improve the genetic base of the hinds.

In January 2006 at the annual Stanfield's Bushey Park Stag Sale Herbrand's first son was purchased by Harry & Norma Robinson and Craig Wilson. The stag was named HOWLAND after a previous Lord Howland of Woburn Abbey, England. Please visit Howland's page to find out more about this incredible stag.

Please also feel free to contact Craig if you have any questions or just for a chat about the deer!
